- XRP on XRP Ledger
Xaman manages XRP Ledger and Xahau accounts. This site covers its use with XRP on XRP Ledger only.
What Xaman is
Xaman, formerly called Xumm, is a mobile wallet for accounts on XRP Ledger and Xahau. This guide covers its use with XRP on XRP Ledger.
Xaman manages the keys that let your phone sign transactions, but the company does not take custody of the XRP in a full-access account. You are responsible for protecting the account's recovery information.
Payment route covered here
Use Xaman for XRP when the recipient explicitly requests XRP on XRP Ledger. Do not use an address or instructions for another network merely because the currency name looks similar.
An XRP Ledger address normally begins with r. A custodial recipient such as an exchange may also require a destination tag. Xaman explains that a self-custody address generally does not require a destination tag, while a shared custodial address often does.
Always follow the recipient's current instructions. A destination tag belongs in its dedicated field, not the memo field.
Before installing
Start at the official Xaman website or its official help centre. Follow the official app-store link for your phone. Avoid advertisements and messages that offer to activate or recover an XRP account for you.
Create a full-access account if you intend to hold and send XRP yourself. A read-only account can display activity but cannot approve payments.
Recovery and account access
Follow Xaman's current account creation and backup instructions carefully. Its recovery process may use account secret numbers or another supported signing arrangement rather than presenting exactly the same backup screen as another wallet.
Keep every recovery credential private and offline. Xaman cannot reverse an XRP Ledger transaction or recover an account when the necessary secret is gone.
Account reserve and fees
XRP Ledger accounts have a base reserve set by the network. Some XRP may need to remain in an active account rather than being available to send. Additional account objects, such as certain trust lines, can affect the reserve.
The network also charges a small transaction cost. Read Xaman's current account and transaction summary rather than assuming the entire displayed balance can be paid out.
Destination tags require special care
When paying an exchange or another service that gives you a destination tag:
- copy the XRP Ledger address;
- copy the destination tag into the separate tag field;
- compare both with the recipient's instructions;
- review both again on the final transaction screen.
Missing or incorrect tags can prevent a custodial service from assigning the payment to the correct customer, even when the XRP reaches its address.
Optional services and privacy
Xaman can open xApps and third-party services inside the wallet. Those services can have separate terms, accounts, identity checks, and privacy practices. The wallet's self-custody model does not automatically apply to every xApp.
Check which service is requesting information before sharing it. No xApp or support agent needs your account secret to identify you or receive a payment.
When it may fit
Xaman may fit when your payment route is XRP on XRP Ledger and you want an app designed around XRP Ledger addresses, tags, reserves, and transaction signing.
It is not the right choice for the Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, or Tron payment routes covered by this site.
