What AlphaWallet is

AlphaWallet is an open-source self-custody wallet for Android and iOS. It focuses on Ethereum, tokens, and web3 applications.

Its token and dapp features offer more controls than a payment-only wallet. Beginners should keep the task simple when they only need to receive or send a payment.

Payment routes covered here

This guide covers:

  • ETH on Ethereum;
  • USDT on Ethereum (ERC-20).

AlphaWallet supports other compatible networks and tokens, but they are not substitutes for Ethereum when a recipient requests Ethereum. It does not cover the Bitcoin, Litecoin, XRP Ledger, or Tron routes listed by this website.

Installation and recovery

Begin at the official AlphaWallet website and use its App Store or Google Play links. AlphaWallet publishes its mobile application source code, but a fake store listing or copied website can still be dangerous.

Record the 12-word recovery backup offline and protect the app with the available PIN or biometric controls. Never enter the words into a dapp, token page, support chat, or wallet-verification form.

ETH and ERC-20 USDT

ETH is Ethereum's fee asset. An AlphaWallet account holding USDT on Ethereum needs enough ETH to send that USDT later.

Ethereum-compatible networks can use similar 0x addresses. Read the selected network in the app and match it to the recipient's request rather than trusting the address shape alone.

Tokens and dapp connections

Anyone can create a token with a familiar name or symbol. Do not interact with unexpected tokens or use a contract address sent by a stranger.

Receiving ETH or USDT does not require connecting to a website. Review every connection, signature, and token approval, and reject requests unrelated to the payment.

When it may fit

AlphaWallet may fit when you want an open-source mobile wallet for Ethereum payments and understand how Ethereum gas and token approvals work.

A more focused payment wallet may be easier when you do not need its web3 browser and token features.
