USDT is a token issued on several networks. Two widely used versions are:
- USDT on Ethereum (ERC-20)
- USDT on Tron (TRC-20)
The USDT name and balance do not make these routes interchangeable. The sender, recipient, wallet, and purchase provider must all support the same network.
If a request only says “send USDT,” ask whether it means Ethereum (ERC-20) or Tron (TRC-20) before you buy or send anything.
Ethereum addresses usually begin with 0x. When sending ERC-20 USDT from a personal wallet, the network fee is paid in ETH. A USDT balance alone may not be enough to make the transfer.
Choose a receiving screen that explicitly says Ethereum or ERC-20. Similar-looking address formats can exist on other networks, so the network label matters more than appearance.
Tron addresses commonly begin with T. A TRC-20 transfer uses Tron resources called Bandwidth and Energy. If the wallet does not have enough resources, TRX may be used to cover the network cost.
Choose a receiving screen that explicitly says Tron or TRC-20. Do not paste an Ethereum destination into a Tron withdrawal or the other way around.
Purchase providers often place network selection on a withdrawal screen rather than the original currency list. Seeing “USDT supported” does not prove that the service can send on the recipient's network.
Check the exact withdrawal label, fee, minimum, and destination before paying the provider. Never accept an automatic network substitution.
- The recipient named Ethereum (ERC-20) or Tron (TRC-20).
- The sending wallet shows that same network.
- The receiving wallet supports that exact USDT version.
- The full address matches.
- You have enough ETH for an Ethereum fee or enough Tron resources or TRX for a Tron transfer.
- The USDT amount and all fees are clear.
A standard personal-wallet transfer on these routes does not normally use a separate tag or memo. A hosted service can have additional account-crediting instructions, so include any identifier it explicitly supplies.
